<image:caption>Nutritional psychiatry incorporates evidence-based nutritional recommendations that can alleviate your mental health symptoms. Nutritional psychiatry examines the relationship between your gut and your brain and the role that certain nutrients play in impacting your symptoms, for better or worse. We will work together to assess how your nutritional habits may be interacting with your mental health and formulate a plan to support your holistic mental and physical well-being.</image:caption>

Together, we will formulate a plan to meet your mental health goals.</image:caption>

<image:title>Services - Medication Management</image:title>
<image:caption>Medication is not for everyone, but it can be very beneficial to consider when your symptoms are overwhelming your coping skills or negatively impacting your ability to function. Although medications very rarely address the root cause of your symptoms, they can help provide some margin and give you a physical reprieve, enabling you to implement healthy coping strategies and habits gained through counseling or psychotherapy. Medications work on a chemical level in your body and can help balance your energy, moods, sleep, and ability to focus. Medications are not a cure, but they are often useful tools that can help you reach your mental health goals.</image:caption>

<image:title>Services - Psychotherapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Psychotherapy is the first line of treatment for most mental health struggles. While it can also be used interchangeably with counseling, there are a few differences. Psychotherapy can be more structured than counseling and tends to address long-term symptoms, feelings, and their root causes. Commonly used examples of psychotherapy include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-based Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy. There are some providers who specialize in specific psychotherapy models, such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy or Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.</image:caption>

<image:title>PTSD - Many people falsely assume…</image:title>
<image:caption>…That trauma is always rooted in comparative suffering. In other words, "It's not like I've experienced [insert example here], so I don't really have a right to call it trauma. Many people have suffered worse." However, this is not how our brain and body operate. Trauma is trauma, and it can change how your brain is wired to respond to perceived or real threats. PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) symptoms can vary widely for each individual, but most people feel some constellation of symptoms AND these symptoms are negatively impacting their ability to function personally and/or professionally.</image:caption>

<image:title>Meet Alex - FOUNDER & PSYCHIATRIC NURSE PRACTITIONER</image:title>
<image:caption>Alexandra Shaw, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC Board-Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with 8 Years’ Experience in the Medical Field I grew up in a “crunchy” home, where trips to the chiropractor were frequent, herbal tinctures were a go-to when you felt under the weather, and trips to the traditional doctor were taken as needed. Driven by a desire to combine my love of science with my love of people, I went to nursing school. However, I soon found out that I had very little insight into what a nurse’s role was in the American healthcare system. After graduating from nursing school at Clemson University, I began working in perinatal health at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. I especially loved caring for pregnant patients who struggled with opioid addiction and other mental health issues. After a few years, I transitioned to a residential counseling facility for young women, where I served as the Director of Medical Services. While there, I worked with a coordinated Wellness team, including a nutritionist and physical trainer, along with our team of counselors and mental healthcare providers. It was there that I saw a different side of mental healthcare and how incorporating healthy lifestyle changes, alternative and holistic methods, and Western medicine could drastically improve outcomes in these young women. Since graduating in August 2020 with my Master’s in Nursing, I have worked in outpatient care as a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I am passionate about assisting clients in reaching their optimum level of health by combining nutrition, exercise, therapy, and holistic and traditional medicine. When I’m not serving my clients, you can usually find me spending time with my husband and our three kiddos, cooking or baking in the kitchen, or enjoying some fresh air outside.</image:caption>

<image:title>ADHD - Believe it or not…</image:title>
<image:caption>…ADHD (Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) symptoms can vary widely across individuals, age ranges, and genders. These symptoms may significantly challenge your ability to function and are often associated with comorbid conditions like anxiety, mood disorders, and behavioral disorders. Essentially, it's much more than daydreaming in class, and hyperactivity may or may not actually be present. It’s also important to note that ADHD now encompasses symptoms of both ADHD and ADD (Attention-Deficit Disorder). ADHD symptoms can vary widely for each individual, but most people feel some constellation of symptoms AND these symptoms are negatively impacting their ability to function personally and/or professionally.</image:caption>

<image:title>About - That’s why we approach mental health on a holistic level.</image:title>
<image:caption>At Mountain View Mental Health, we take a holistic approach to helping you heal and recover from the mental health issues that are holding you back from living your healthiest life. We believe holistic, alternative, and functional medicine can exist in tandem with traditional, "Western" medicine, and even be used effectively together when needed. Health is about more than eradicating disease and controlling symptoms. In fact, your mental health is directly linked to your physical, emotional, and spiritual health. It matters how you fuel your body, mind, and soul—and it's our goal to provide comprehensive treatment plans that address the health of your whole self. We want to help you live your healthiest life so that you can show up for the things that matter.</image:caption>
