FOUNDER & PSYCHIATRIC NURSE PRACTITIONER

Alexandra Shaw, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC

Board-Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with 8 Years’ Experience in the Medical Field

I grew up in a “crunchy” home, where trips to the chiropractor were frequent, herbal tinctures were a go-to when you felt under the weather, and trips to the traditional doctor were taken as needed. Driven by a desire to combine my love of science with my love of people, I went to nursing school. However, I soon found out that I had very little insight into what a nurse’s role was in the American healthcare system.

After graduating from nursing school at Clemson University, I began working in perinatal health at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. I especially loved caring for pregnant patients who struggled with opioid addiction and other mental health issues. After a few years, I transitioned to a residential counseling facility for young women, where I served as the Director of Medical Services. While there, I worked with a coordinated Wellness team, including a nutritionist and physical trainer, along with our team of counselors and mental healthcare providers. It was there that I saw a different side of mental healthcare and how incorporating healthy lifestyle changes, alternative and holistic methods, and Western medicine could drastically improve outcomes in these young women.

Since graduating in August 2020 with my Master’s in Nursing, I have worked in outpatient care as a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I am passionate about assisting clients in reaching their optimum level of health by combining nutrition, exercise, therapy, and holistic and traditional medicine.

When I’m not serving my clients, you can usually find me spending time with my husband and our three kiddos, cooking or baking in the kitchen, or enjoying some fresh air outside.
